,.

A

City of Centerville
Council Meetings
March 27, 2002

Council Member Nelson asked if the City could be held liable for money spent
incorrectly.

City Attorney Hoeft explained that the Lions were aware that legally the Lions could not
give to another Lions club and, since the City Administrator was a Lion, suggested that
the City receive and hold the funds. He then explained that the City does not have to give
the funds back legally but that is for Council to decide. He further indicated he would
like to see the City get out of the business of handing charitable gambling funds and
suggested the Lions find another entity in town that qualifies or form one themselves. He
also commented that doing so would be a protection for the Lions because Council's
change and this Council may agree and make a deal with the Lions but the next one may
not.

Council Member Broussard Vickers suggested setting up the right organization and
contacting the City to let the City know when to release the funds.

The Spring Lake Park Gambling Manager indicated that another $8,000 was in process
and would be coming to the City.

V.
