I
I
I

City of CenterviUe
Council Meeting Minutes
May 22, 2002

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated she would use the $10,000 from the office equipment fund
and find the other $5,000.

Council Member Broussard Vickers suggested the City is losing that $5000 in Staff time
due to the computer issues.

Council Member Capra asked if a server is needed or the computers.

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated she felt the server was needed because so much data is stored
on the hard drives of the Staff computers that there is not much memory left and that
causes issues.

Council Member Capra asked whether Staff could hook up this system or if the City
would need a professional.

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated the City would need a professional and said she is looking
into someone who can do that for the City. She then commented that she is not looking
for approval at this time but a cousensus that Council could live with the proposal.

Council Member Capra asked if the server could be purchased and hooked up for
$10,000 or less.

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated she would need to find out if the existing computers would
work with the server.

Mayor Swedberg commented that the hidden cost in this is when the City buys the server
it needs to buy a person to operate it. He then suggested adding very large hard drives
which is very inexpensive and would provide enough memory to solve the crashing
issues. He further suggested that Ms. Moore-Sykes retrieve any information she can off
of her hard drive and have her hard drive reformatted to eliminate the viruses.

Council Member Broussard Vickers asked if the City could get a server that is compatible
with the machines the City already has.

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated Logis had suggested going with a server to add memory and
networking.

Council Member Nelson commented that she had the same system bought about the same
time and has had to flush it and start over because it is not a good system She then
commented that she knew of someone who could help with the virus issues and would
provide that infurmation to Staff.

Council Member Broussard Vickers asked what would happen if the upgraded hard
drives do not solve the problem She then commented she would not want to be out all
the money to upgrade them

.

Page 8 of15
