Staff would like Council to consider purchasing a
server so that the office computers can be networked allowing for more storage and
consequently more memory at each pc. Staff would also propose that a CPU (hard drive)
and a printer be purchased for the Finance Director's office. Currently, the equipment
that the Finance Director is using is not capable of having a mouse installed so the lap top
computer is interfaced with the pc, which enables the user access to a mouse. Staff feels
these pieces of equipment are needed to prevent computer crashes and allow for upgrade
ofthe Finance Director's computer equipment.

Staff does not expect these electronic purchases to exceed $8,000 based on Mr.
Pekkaraine's estimate (see page 3 of Mr. Pekkaraine's attached report). The 2002 budget
49970 Replacement Office Equipment and Furniture line item has $10,000.

RECOMMENDATION
Based on Council discussion.
