I <br />created the following recommendations based on our conversations, a survey of the current IT <br />environment, and standards that adopted by other metro municipalities. <br /> <br />PC and Network Environment: <br /> <br />Currently the city operates on a 10 MB Peer-lo-Peer netv.urk environment. This LAN environment has <br />numerous inherent problems. The following are severai of the more serioUs problems: <br /> <br />1) No security policies' or lights on files and directories. Users can access all files and <br />directories with read, write, and delete privileges. Privacy and confidentiality would be <br />impossible to maintain with any shared files. ' <br /> <br />2) No high speed shared printeffl. All printers are local plinters to each PC. The, purchase of <br />a high speed nelwoI1< printer would a11cw all users access to a high quality printer and <br />vvould be more cost effective then purd1asing printers for all Pes. <br /> <br />3) Backups are currently partial backups of only data files and not entire systems backups. <br />Entire system backups are required for disaster recovery purposes. Full backups allow <br />the ability to restore the networl< back to the original condition. <br /> <br />4) Directories are not organiZed and easy to follow. Peer-lo-Peer networks are inherenlly <br />difficult to assign a v.A:lridng directory structUre. login scripts and share directories are not <br />available. <br /> <br />5) No current anti--virus software. This is crttical for elimination of viruses spread from emsils, <br />sharing of diskettes, etc. <br /> <br />The City of Centerviile needs to develop a strategic and tactical technology plan. This plan needs to <br />address the networ1< infrastructure, phone systems, building infrastructure, CIP planning, and the future <br />growth of the city. <br /> <br />4;74;/1 n"l"fh ~_f .
