<br />BUilding a Downtown Organization
<br />
<br />Who has responsibility for organizing and
<br />promoting Main Street? Who plans for downtown
<br />improvements? Who can be an advocate for Main
<br />Street within your community, and ensure that
<br />stakeholders are organized for action?
<br />
<br />A community's choice of organizational structure
<br />will have a tremendous impact on the success of
<br />Main Street planning and investment Communities
<br />have successfully used a variety of organizational
<br />structures to plan for Main Street Joining us as
<br />gues! speakers are Jean Coleman, Esq. of CR
<br />Planning, Inc. and Troy Domine, the Director of
<br />Mobile Montgomery. Jean will present how Main
<br />Street progr;;lms and other types of downtown
<br />organizations are organized or affiliated with
<br />existing organizations, and outline the benefits and
<br />pitfalls of different kinds of organizational
<br />structures, Troy will discuss Montgomery's
<br />innovations to link the Main Street program, the
<br />Economic Development Authority, the Chamber,
<br />and other community organizations to serve both
<br />Main Street and the larger community.
<br />
<br />This WOrkshop will cover: (1) the spectrum of legal
<br />and programmatic organizations for Main Street; (2)
<br />financial and Board details; and (~) how to play to
<br />your community's strengths in defining your Main
<br />Street or downtown program.
<br />
<br />Cost: $75.00 per community. Workshops are free
<br />to Affiliate members. Refreshments will be
<br />provided. Stay afterward for a beverage of your
<br />choice in beautiful downtown Northfield.
