<br />I> <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />Effective: 6/6/69 <br />City ofCentervilIe Ord. #16 <br /> <br />the street, except that when a vehicle is parked upon the street during those hours, <br />parking lights shall be lighted. <br /> <br />SECTION 9. EMERGENCY VEHICLES. <br />The speed limitation of this ordinance shall not apply to vehicles when operated with due regard <br />for safety, under the direction of police officers in the chase or apprehension of violators of the <br />law or persons charged with or suspected of any such violation, or to fire departments of fire <br />patrol vehicles when traveling in response to a fire alarm, or to public ambulances in emergency <br />use or service. <br /> <br />When a fire alarm shall be sounded or when the warning device of any emergency vehicle shall <br />be sounded, all vehicles upon the streets of the City shall draw to the right side of the street and <br />permit such vehicle to pass. No vehicle of any kind shall precede fire apparatus to a fire using <br />the same street that it is using. No vehicle shall follow fire apparatus which has stopped in <br />answer to a fire alarm. No vehicle shall be driven over any unprotected hose of a fire department <br />when laid down on any street or private driveway to be used at any fire or alarm of fire, without <br />the consent of the fire department official in command. <br /> <br />SECTION 10. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LIQUOR OR NARCOTICS. <br />No person who is an habitual user of narcotic drugs or who is under the influence of narcotics or <br />liquors shall drive or operate a vehicle on any street within the City, and no person shall consume <br />liquor while an occupant of a vehicle upon any street in the City. <br /> <br />SECTION 11. PEDESTRIANS. <br />Pedestrians shall move when practicable upon the right half of crosswalks. Pedestrians shall <br />cross streets in accordance with signals at controlled intersections. When traffic at intersections <br />is not controlled, motor vehicles shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need <br />be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is <br />upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is <br />approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger, but no <br />pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a <br />vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield. No vehicle shall pass <br />another vehicle that has stopped at a marked crosswalk or at an intersection for a pedestrian to <br />pass. At any point other than a crosswalk or at an intersection for a pedestrian to pass. At any <br />point other than a crosswalk, pedestrians shall yield the right of way to motor vehicles. This <br />shall not relieve the driver of any motor vehicle of th~ obligation to use due care. No person <br />shall stand in the roadway for the purpose of soliciting rides. Pedestrians walking upon a <br />roadway shall walk near the left side of the roadway, giving way to oncoming traffic. <br /> <br />SECTION 12. GLASS AND OTHER INJURIOUS SUBSTANCE ON HIGHWAYS. <br />So person shall throw or deposit glass, metal, garbage, tin cans, or any other similar substance <br />upon any highways, and anyone who drops or throws, or permits to b dropped or thrown any <br />such destructive or injurious substance shall immediately cause the same to be removed. Any <br />wrecked or damaged vehicle on a street shall be removed there from without unreasonable delay, <br />and pending removal shall be guarded during the period when lights are required on vehicles <br />with proper lights, equal in intensity to ordinary parking lights, or by red flares; and which <br /> <br />L__ <br /> <br />Page 4 of 5 <br />
