City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting <br />May 13, 2009 <br />Councilmember Broussard Vickers inquired whether the City would make a correction if <br />the drain the did not solve the problem. <br />City Engineer Statz replied that if a problem occurred years down the road, the City would <br />reconstruct the rain gardens. He added that citizens would be welcome to plant their own <br />plantings and that grants for the plant materials are available from Rice Creek Watershed <br />District. <br />Discussion ensued. <br />Mr. Russell Koske, 7280 Twin Lakes Avenue, appeared to restate that he and his neighbors <br />would rather not have rain garden. However, if it must be put in, they would like it <br />constructed to be the least intrusive. He would not want to have an unsightly ditch or <br />additional maintenance. Mr. Koske offered to have the rain garden on his larger property, <br />so his two neighbors would not need to have one. <br />Ms. Gail Nadon, 1984 73rd Street, appeared to voice her concern regarding the cost to <br />maintain rain gardens and asked how much this would affect the trees. <br />Ms. Tammy Klemann, 1968 73rd Street, appeared to stated her preference for moveable <br />grass. She voiced a concern about having additional water if the rain garden did not work. <br />City Engineer Statz replied that the water would be contained in the rain gardens and <br />would drain away within 48 hours. <br />Councilmember Paar stated that he agreed with Mr. Koske, but the rain gardens are <br />necessary. Moveable grass would be the least intrusive way to do them. He thanked Mr. <br />Koske for his constructive criticism and being willing to work with the City. <br />Councilmember Lee stated that he appreciated Mr. Koske's offer to have a larger rain <br />garden on his property. <br />Motion by Councilmember Broussard Vickers, seconded by Councilmember Paar to <br />close the Public Hearing. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Capra closed the Public Hearing at 7:10 p.m. <br />III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />Mayor Capra made the following additions to the Agenda: <br />V.
