Council Member Broussard Vickers noted Council has discussed the issue of allowing more than one (I) garbage hauler in the past and it was decided to allow one (I) hauler. This is a very good incentive for Waste Management to provide excellent customer service in order to ensure their contract will be renewed. 2. Letter from Mrs. Camp-Baron Mayor Swedberg explained the Barons have asked to receive an extension on the 60-day time frame to clean up their lot and bring it into compliance with Ordinance #4 due to snow and ice. Council Member Capra questioned whether anyone has checked the condition of the property since the Barons were notified to clean it up. Mr. Palzer indicated the 60-day period expires on January 12,2001 and he had intended to call the Barons to set up an appointment to inspect the property the following week. Council Member Capra questioned whether there was someone who knew what it looked like initially so they would be able to tell if progress had been made. Council Member Travis indicated the City has pictures of the condition of the property. Mr. Ray DeVine, 1695 Main Street, stated the Barons have cleaned up several items and appear to be making progress. Council Member Broussard Vickers inquired as to whether Council has the authority to grant the extension and if it does, what sort of precedence would it set. Mr. Hoeft stated that Council does have the authority to grant the extension. He then recommended letting the 60-day time period expire, Mr. Palzer inspect the property to determine whether the issues are weather related, and Council consider the extension. Motion by Council Member Nelson. seconded by Council Member Broussard Vickers to direct Staff to inspect the Baron property after the expiration of the 60- day time period to determine whether there is valid reason to believe further clean up is bein!! impeded by weather. All in favor. Motion carried unanimouslv. IX. UNFINISHED BUSINESS L Downtown Snow Removal Mayor Swedberg explained there is a safety issue for children getting to school due to the build up of snow on sidewalks in the downtown area. There are also issues of downtown parking if there are windrows of snow, the cars park farther and farther away from the curb into the street, which creates a hazard. Mr. March stated that the Mayor and several business owners had met on Monday to discuss snow removal issues at the comer of Centerville Road and Main Street. In the last couple of days there have been several instances in the news of cities having issues with downtown snow removal so this is not a problem specific to Centerville. The City Page 8 of 18 L
