Mr. Nyberg commented it would be less expensive to incorporate in a work order change than to separately request the project. Mr. Nyberg suggested discussing the Peltier Lake Drive Public Informational Meeting. Mayor Wilharber explained it wasn't on the agenda and some residents may want to be present, he recommends placing it on the next agenda. Mr. Nyberg commented the Council had discussed putting in sidewalks on Mill Road. If the Council is still taking this under consideration, he would suggest holding off on seal coating Mill _,. Road. Mayor Wilharber explained there had been discussion to put in sidewalks on Mill Road. Based off the residents input and the associated costs the city decided to wait. Mayor Wilharber concluded by adding the Mill Road addition to the seal coat project. MOTION by Councilmember Helmbrecht, seconded by Councilmember Buckbee to approve the 1997 Seal Coat Project including the Mill Road addition. Also, have the Engineer and staff work together as per the letter dated April 3, 1997. Motion carried. Union Contract - Mr. March explained the public work employees voted to approve the union contract that was presented to them by their union agent. However, there are still a few changes that were not incorporated in the final document that had been requested previously. Councilmember Buckbee asked "What will the wage increase to ?" Mr. March replied $12.50 per hour. Councilmember Buckbee confirmed about a two - dollar raise per hour. Councihnember Helmbrecht asked "What about the insurance benefits and if the employee elects not to take the insurance do they still receive the sum amount ?" Mr. March explained the insurance agreement. (EXHIBIT B). Councilmember Buckbee asked "Could an employee work for a specified amount of time prior to receiving deferred compensation ?" Mr. March explained it is a flat fee across the board showing no partiality toward one employee or another. Councihnember Helmbrecht asked "How many paid vacation days are in the contract ?" Mr. March explained there are ten vacations days in the contract which has been the policy. MOTION by Councilmember Buckbee, seconded by Councilmember Brenner to approve the union contract and insurance packet as recommended by Jim's memo dated April 4, 1997. Motion carried. Garbage Contract - Mr. March met with Greg Hellings to discuss drafting the specification document that would allow the city to issue a request for proposals from other waste haulers. Further, The current contract with United Waste expires on May 8, 1997. United Waste has indicated a willingness to extend the contract.
