Source: City pumping and billing records. 3.2 PER CAPITA WATER USE 1 The per capita water consumption rate is calculated by dividing the average daily residential water use by the number of residents, and is typically expressed as gallons per capita per day (GPCD). Because the 1996 servicejrea population included the Centerville Elementary School population bf 900 students, this made a significant difference in computing the per capita water. use. Values for residential per capita and total per capita water use were computed, and are included in Table 3.2 below. Including Centerville Elementary School population, the residential per capita water use has averaged 56 gallons per day over the past seven years. Without the school population( the average residential per capita water use has averaged 60 gallons per day for the same time period. Per capita water use based on total water pumped has averaged 64 gpcd including the 1996 school population and 69 gpcd without the school population over the last seven years. Although relatively low compared to other communities, these averages fall within the range of normally expected residential water use. TABLE 3 -2.
