MEMO
DATE : January 7, 1999
TO : Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM : Jim March
RE : Easement compensation for Helmbrecht's
************************************** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * **
To be able to construct the flashing lights for the elementary school crosswalk, easements were
required from the two property owners where the lights were to be located. Both property
owners were aware that the easements were necessary for this project to proceed. Virginia Maher
signed the easement for the Kelly's Korner property. Jerry and Mary Jo Helmbrecht have signed
the easement for their property, but have requested compensation in the amount of $300 for the
easement. They feel that the easement is larger than they anticipated and the flashing light may
damage the resale and/or market value of their property. The Helmbrecht's signed the easement
to allow construction to proceed on schedule and understand the issue was to be discussed at the
Council meeting.
