Memo Bonestroo
I I I em o m Roselle
C AnderIik &
VI Associates
Engineers &Architects
Project Name: Water Tower- water system Client: Centerville
study
File No: 616gen
To: Jim March
Q Date: 04/28/99
From: Tom Peterson
Re: Update on future water tower siting
Remarks: The City is considering purchasing the Lake Area Utilities property on 20th Avenue and
possibly Outlot A to the south. The City Council asked us to investigate the possibility of constructing a
water tower on Outlot A- determine if the site is feasible (ie: existing main sizes, water pressures, land use,
soil conditions, etc) for this use.
We obtained a computer model for the City's water system from HR Green. The model is not up to -date on
all the new mains that have been installed recently, but we will be doing this as we proceed on the study.
Our initial analysis of the site is that it looks feasible from an engineering standpoint.
From the Comprehensive Water Plan, a 400,000 gallon tank was proposed for behind City Hall. Outlot A
can handle this size tank and probably provide adequate fire flows to all parts of the City. This will be
positively determined when the new water model is run. A 12 -inch main would be necessary along Center
Street from Dupre to 20th Avenue to complete a necessary loop for the system.
The high water elevation for the new tank would be set to match Lino Lakes high water elevation. We feel
that the City should have a soil boring taken at Outlot A to confirm if pilings would be needed for the tower
foundation. If pilings are needed, costs would be considerably higher for the tower construction.
We will have additional information available once the new model is run.
Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik and Associates, Inc.
St. Paul Office: Milwaukee Office: Rochester Office: illm e: St. Office:
W ar Offic St I u O e.
2335 West Highway 36 1516 West Mequon Road 2222 Hwy 52 North 205 5th Street SW 2008 8th St. North
St. Paul, MN 55113 Mequon, WI 53092 Rochester, MN 55901 Willmar, MN 56201 St. Cloud, MN 56303
Phone: 651-636-4600 Phone: 414-241-4466 Phone: 507- 282 -2100 Phone: 320- 214 -9557 Phone: 320. 2514553
Fax: 651- 636 -1311 Fax: 414-241-4901 Fax: 507- 282 -3100 Fax: 320-214-9458 Fax: 320-251-6252
