MEMO
To: Ry -Chel Gaustad, City Clerk
From: Paul Palzer, Public Works Director/Building Official V'
J
Re: Detached Accessory Buildings
In regards to your request pertaining to the size and height of accessory buildings, the
current ordinance has only two controlling requirements. The 14 foot height requirement
and the 10% area of the rear yard. I believe that a maximum square foot size for an
accessory building of 200 square feet with a maximum wall height of 8 feet would meet
the expectations of most residents who do not what large buildings. A separate definition
for an accessory building excluding garages would have to be added to the ordinance
language. The planning and zoning commission may also want to limit the maximum
square footage of garages in town to 1000 square feet as a controlling device.
If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
