EDC FUNDRAISERS
CityMechandise: After much discussion on quantity, inventory and sales, the committee
decided to sell city merchandise at the "Fete des Lacs" City Celebration. The merchandise
will be ordered in small quantities. If interest is high the committee would like to continue
selling city merchandise on a "pre- paid" order program. City merchandise may include
some, but not all of the following: T- shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps, and coffee mugs.
Photo Contest: Ms. Capra presented the committee with a photo contest idea passed to
her from Councilmember Nelson. The contest would be a city based photo contest in
which residents would submit favorite photo(s) of people, public events, cityscapes,
sports, nature, etc. for a grand prize. Ms. Capra indicated the committee could charge an
entrance fee to cover contest costs, or to increase revenues for the EDC Special Revenue
Fund. Ms. Capra added the pictures could be saved and used for historical record
purposes as well as for city newsletters. The committee requested the contest be added to
the July agenda for further discussion.
NEW BUSINESS
Lino Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce: Mr. Rehbine informed the committee about the
Lino Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, formed in January 1999. Mr. Rehbine and Mr.
Montain are two of the nine directors /founding fathers of the chamber, and indicated the
functions of the chamber are closely related to the functions of the EDC committee. Mr.
Rehbine and Mr. Montain would like to see the city join the chamber providing the
chamber agrees to add cities to their sponorship. Mr. Rehbine stated he would discuss the
possibility of the City of Centerville joining the chamber at the next chamber meeting. The
Lino Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce will be added to the July EDC meeting agenda.
Functions of EDC: Mr. Montain indicated his concern in regards to reoccuring agenda
items over the last three years that do not fit into EDC purpose/functions. EDC needs to
focus on business retention, and bringing in new businesses. EDC needs to be aware of
what changes in the downtown area, along Main Street, and the opportunities the city has
• for future commercial/industrial growth. This item will be placed on the July agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion to adjourn at 10:00 was made by Mr. Magill. Motion seconded by Ms. Dorn.
Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully Submitted,
Aimee Fairbrother
EDC /Staff Liaison
