June 2, 1999 Park and Recreation Meeting
which shouldn't cost a lot of money. They felt this swing and possibly a shelter could go
in at the whole other end of park,
Mr. Navin expressed it is premature to talk anymore about shelters or anything going into
the park until we know if the City gets the grant.
Mr. Navin wanted to address the issue of children fishing around the pond at Acorn
Creek. Naturally, it is a drawing point for children to come to fish. Legally the pond is
not connected to Acorn Creek Park, so the kids shouldn't be able to fish there. Adding if
we could figure out some way to appease the property owners, this could be the key to
the success of Acorn Creek Park. The City needs to use a pro - active approach.
Mr. Devine (1837 Revoir St.) suggested contacting the property owners to see how they
felt about granting an easement to the City allowing children to fish in the pond.
Ms. Dorn mentioned she doesn't mind the kids coming onto her property, except that they
leave garbage and things behind. She doesn't feel she should have to clean up after them.
Ms. Dorn questioned if the pond will ever be fished out; and also, where did the fish come
from to begin with?
Mr. Steve Brown noted that he has never seen a dead fish along the lakeshore, adding that
the fish are getting bigger. He didn't feel the pond would ever be fished out.
Mr. March mentioned if the property owners have a problem with children on their
property or are worried about liabilities, they could always put up a fence. It would have
been nice if there were an easement on tot 9 from the start. Mr. March suggested
contacting the property owner to see if they are interested in signing an easement. If they
are interested, we can pursue from there. If they are not interested, it will have to be
dropped. Mr. March didn't feel the Council would be willing to pursue condemnation. It
was determined that Lisa and Loren Abrahamson are the property owners of lot 9.
Mr. Navin requested permission to write a letter to the Abrahamson on behalf of the City.
It was determined that it would be better to drop the letter off in persona Also, Mr. Navin
could answer any questions the Abrahamsons may have.
PETITIONS AND COMPLAINTS
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
. - •g ' .
