June 2, 1999 Park and Recreation Meeting
Mr. March mentioned the St. Paul Water Utility gave the City permission to cross their
easement to connect the two trails. There is a meeting scheduled on Thursday, 6/10/99. at
2:00 p.m. with the St. Paul Water Utility and Anoka County. Mr. March mentioned that
there were a few upset Lino Lakes residents at the last
Mr. March briefly explained that a developer by the name of Rick Carlson is proposing
developing 20 acres of land - just south of LaMotte Fark. Mr. Carlson is having a meeting
with the homeowners to discuss acquiring the property. This property is not scheduled
into the MUSA 2001. Maybe the developer could put in a bridge when he acquires
the property. Mr. March will update the Park and Recreation Committee of the status at
the next meeting in July.
• 1J - • 1 1 $ j1. • 11 ;II 111=11 1 ' $ 1. y11 •11 ,1: '1 ,• •I •.
Lalotte Park.
Mr. March mentioned that some group was practicing on the ball fields at LaMotte Park.
They are also driving on the grass. Public works is grooming the three ball fields behind
the elementary school everyday. The inspector has inspected the seeding. The City is
now just trying to keep people off of the park.
Mr. Navin mentioned he has been in contact with Dick Travis who works for Glen
Rehbein. Apparently, Mr. Rehbein wants to help the Soccer Club and is willing to
contribute their expertise.
Mr. Porter suggested the City talk to Joe Goetz of Goetz Landscaping to see if Mr. Goetz
has any suggestions about the grass and upkeeping of the grass at the parks. Also, should
the City post signs at the parks about driving on the grass?
Removal of swing at Royal Meadows Park
Mr. March explained that public works goes over to Royal Meadows Park almost daily to
unwind the swings. Public works hasn't had time to remove the slide as of yet, but their
goal is to have it removed June 12,
Mr. Navin questioned what needed to be replaced on the current swing to bring it up to
code?
Ms. Lien offered all of the hardware needs to be replaced, i.e.: chains, nuts and bolts,
screws, hooks for the chains, etc. Also, the boxed in area surrounding the swing with
timbers needs to be made larger and more sand brought in. Apparently code requires that
whatever the height of a swing is, the boxed in area surrounding it must be twice the size.
Example: a 10 ft. tall swing needs to have an area of 20 ft. surrounding, all sides.
Mr. Porter felt that overall the whole park should be bulldozed over completely, and re-
done. Mr. March mentioned it is the one of the most heavily used parks in Centerville.
4
