Memorandum
DATE : December 17, 1999
TO : Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM : Jim March
RE : Compensation Study Cost of Living Adjustment
In December of 1997, the City of Centerville hired the firm Local Government
Consulting to perform a compensation study for the City. This compensation study
contained a salary chart that covers all of the City employees. One of the
recommendations in the study was that the City review and approve a general increase to
the salary system on an annual basis so that salaries maintain market competitiveness. In
1998, the Council approved a general adjustment of 2.5% to the salary chart.
Included in your packet is a range of chart adjustments at the following adjustment levels:
2 %, 2.25 %, 2.5 %, 2.75% and 3 %. I will check with surrounding communities to see how
they have adjusted their pay ranges. I have included a copy of the latest consumer price
index from the website of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The twelve month CPI ending
in November was 2.6 %.
