Budget 2000 Update
Mr. Navin explained that he made an appearance at the last City Council meeting, and the Park
and Recreation's request for a $50,000 budget was approved. Mr. Navin requested that each
member of the Park and Recreation committee take ownership or spearhead one or two of the
goals presented to Council. Basically, he wanted to create an action plan for each of the goals.
This will show the Council and the citizens of Centerville that the Park and Recreation
Committee is serious about their visions, plans and goals.
The Committee divided up the goals amongst itself as followings:
Mr. Navin Turf/Weed Control (All Parks)
Trail (LaMotte Park)
Curb and Gutter (LaMotte Park)
Mr. Larson Trees (All Parks)
Mr. Porter Benches/Tables (All Parks)
Trash Receptacles (A11 Parks)
Mr. Brown Turf/Weed Control (All Parks)
General Lighting (All Parks)
Ms. DeVine Landscaping (Signs) (All Parks)
Playground Equip. (Royal Meadows)
Mr. LeBlanc Trail ( LaMotte Park)
Ms. DeVine mentioned that she had met Chris Henry with the DNR. Apparently Ms. Henry
advised Ms. Devine to apply for the LCMR grants offered by the DNR. They are due by
February, and Ms. Henry offered to help Centerville obtain the grants.
There was discussion regarding surveys that have been done in the city in the past, and surveys
that should be done in the future that would be specific to each committee, along with a
feasibility study.
Mr. LeBlanc stressed that the committee's make the priorities. Adding, there is nothing in the
budget that implements the design team visions. He would like to see them implemented and
included in the budget.
Mr. March stressed that there is still no prioritization of the design team ideas. Adding, that we
cannot do them all at once. If the entire City were surveyed, more residents would want to see
the downtown area developed than would want to see the City purchase the $300,000 lot for sale
(containing the six -plex) for future park development.
