October 13, 1999
City of Centerville
Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
1818 Main Street
Centerville, MN 55038
Dear Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
I would like to address mine and my husbands concerns to the council with regard to this past
Saturday evening performance by the Rock n Hollywood's at Kelly's Korner.
We would first like to state that we both feel that Mr. Bisek and Kelly's Korner is an asset to our
community. In addition Mr. Bisek has always been ready and will to help the community of
Centerville in a variety of ways each and every time that he has been asked.
Our concern is in the volume of the sound coming from the band this past Saturday evening. We
have lived in Centerville for over nine years and have had few if any problem with regard to noise
levels within our neighborhood or the city. The exception was this past Saturday evening.
When we went to bed Saturday with all our windows shut we could clearly hear songs playing.
Clearly enough to sing along (If we would of chosen to). I called Central Dispatch and asked
them if they could please see if they could find out where the sound was coming from. I told
them where we lived and that I knew that the Rock n Hollywood's was playing at Kelly's Korner.
but really didn't think we should be able to hear them being that we live a little less than a mile
(7 tenths of a mile to be exact) from there.
Needless to say it was the sound from Kelly's that we were hearing in our home even with all the
windows shut. We have never heard the bands during the Fete De Lacs or any other outdoor
performances when they have occurred. Maybe this was a fluke that the sound traveled as far as
what it did, maybe the band needs to turn down it amplifiers, but whatever the cause may have
been it was extremely annoying. We both felt that the city needs to know that the volume of the
sound coming from Kelly's Saturday night was not acceptable and was much louder than we have
ever heard within the city before.
1 wish I could give you a solution that would make everyone happy. The only thing that I can
even suggest would be for event host to turn to volume down (if you hear it even three blocks
away you know your event guest can surely hear it) or have open -air concerts during the day. If
we can hear it a mile away in our home with our windows shut we believe it is simply to loud.
Thank you for your time and consideration of our concerns.
Dan & Mary Capra
1810 Fox Run
Centerville, MN 55038
