Seven Member Park and Recreation Committee
Discussion was held regarding changing the Park and Recreation Committee Member board from
five (5) to seven (7) members. It was decided at this time to leave the Park and Recreation
Member Committee at five (5) members.
Toddler Swing at Tracie McBride Park
Ms. Karla DeVine brought up a toddler swing at the McBride Park. Apparently the swing has
been broke for some time now. It is very dangerous, adding that small children can fall out easily,
or be thrown for a distance if they are not holding on very well. Ms. Lien will talk to the Public
Works Department and have them repair /replace the swing.
Ice Rink
Mr. Navin questioned if there was anything going on regarding the ice rink or attendants at this
time. Mr. Brown stated there is nothing going on at this time, but would like staff to post the ice
rink attendants position in the next two (2) newsletters so that when winter comes around, the
City may have some interested applicants before the season starts.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Mr. Brown wanted to address a letter sent to the Park and Recreation Committee by Ms. Mary
Jane Lang. Ms. Lang would like to see an adult theme park in Centerville. She has been a
resident, who has been paying taxes in this City for 29 years. No where in the City is there a
picnic table for older residents to use. If senior citizens want to barbeque or entertain outside,
there isn't a single place for them to do so in Centerville. She also feels teens need a place to go.
If the city were to install a shelter at a park, it could also be rented out to defray some of the
costs.
Mr. Navin noted receipt of her letter and thanked her for her comments and interests. There will
be more focus on an adult park in the future, possibly when/if the City purchases the land from the
St. Paul Water Utility. Hopefully the City will get the Fishing Pier Grant and make an adult park
on the lake across from the LaMotte Park.
September Agenda Items
1.
