in favor. Motion carried.
Mr. Navin stressed how impressed he was with the efforts and work done by the CNN, adding
they have done their homework well. Once the city invests another $30,000 - $40,000 for the
development of trails, this will be a great city park connected with trails to other areas of the city.
Thank you to the CNN, Mr. Porter and Mr. Larson for their efforts and volunteer work done for
the Acorn Creek Park.
Park and Recreation Interviews and/or process of filling vacancy
There were four (4) letters of interest regarding filling the Park and Recreation Committee
member vacancy. Out of the four letters of interest, three have already been interviewed by the
Park and Recreation Committee. One of the candidates has yet to meet the Park and Recreation
Committee. It was determined that staff would contact the final candidate and set up an interview
for next Wednesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m.. The Park and Recreation Committee will then
discuss and make a decision / recommendation on who they would like to offer the Park and
Recreation member vacancy to. Mr. Navin will contact Mr. March at City Hall on Thursday the
19 to inform him of the recommendation.
NEW BUSINESS
MS Funds for park usage
Mr. March has been in contact with Sharon Deziel form the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Sharon
mentioned the City has approximately $12,000 in their account that needs to be used preferably by
year's end. The dollars are from the charitable gambling that occurs at Kelly's Korner. Mr.
March suggested the fiords be used to offset a portion of the match required from the park
dedication funds to be used to secure the $45,000 from the Minnesota DNR. Most of the grant
dollars are going to be used to purchase accessible playground equipment in the Acorn Creek
Park. The less park dedication funds the City needs to match the DNR grant, the more funds the
City will have to expend in other parks for other uses.
Motion by Mr. Brown to use $12,000 from the MS Society to off set our portion of the
545,000 for Acorn Creek Park. Seconded by Mr. Porter. All in favor. Motion carried.
2000 Budget
The Park and Recreation Committee discussed the condition of the parks in Centerville, adding
that the City should be contracting out for more services within our parks besides just mowing the
lawn. The condition of the grass needs a lot of improvement at Tracie McBride Park.
Mr. Porter made a motion after reviewing the Centerville Budget Worksheet Dept. 45200,
to request a budget increase to $30,000 due to additional costs of park expansion and
additional maintenance costs, for the 2000 Budget. Motion seconded by Mr. Brown. All in
favor. Motion carried.
