One Step Increase to Step 7, Grade 9 for Public Works Director/Building Official <br /> — Paul Palzer <br /> Motion by Council Member Broussard Vickers, seconded by Council <br /> Member Nelson, to increase to Step 7, Grade 9 for Public Works <br /> Director/Building Official Paul Palzer. All in favor. Motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> XL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> • Council Member Broussard Vickers reported on work by the Planning <br /> Commission on Ordinance No. 4 which will be updated and available for <br /> an informational meeting next week. <br /> • Council Member Travis stated the Fire Steering Committee reviewed the <br /> Fire Department budget for 2001 which was ratified with a minimal <br /> increase so some contingency money was included. <br /> • Council Member Sweeney stated the Park and Recreation Committee <br /> received a request to construct a BMX bike track. He noted that <br /> Shoreview has put in a track by their Community Center which draws <br /> many users. He stated the Committee will look into insurance for such an <br /> activity since it may be better to be involved with providing a park than <br /> allowing the youth to construct their own. <br /> Council Member Nelson stated her support to research this option. <br /> Council Member Travis stated he suggested youth attend the Committee <br /> meeting to make this request due to his fear that someone would be hurt at <br /> the dirt track they constructed. He stated that he was asked by several kids <br /> why a park is not being provided for them (12 -15 year olds) since parks are <br /> provided for younger children. He agreed there is a need for this type of <br /> park for Centerville's youth. <br /> Council Member Sweeney stated the Committee will look into insurance <br /> information and liabilities, he will raise this topic at the next meeting. <br /> Council Member Broussard Vickers commented on the Shoreview <br /> Community Center park which is staffed full time and users are required to <br /> wear protective gear. She stated that her concern will be insurance costs. <br /> Motion by Mayor Wilharber, seconded by Council Member Nelson to <br /> direct staff to research liability issues, location options, and insurance <br /> costs for such a BMX bike track. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> • Council Member Sweeney provided an update on the City Festival event, <br /> parade route, and carnival.
