1 PARK AND RECREATION T <br /> K D RECRE TIO COMMITTEE <br /> 2 REGULAR MEETING <br /> 3 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12, 1995 - 6:30 P.M. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Park and Recreation <br /> 6 Committee of the City of Centerville held their regular meeting <br /> 7 on Wednesday, April 12, 1995, at the City Hall. Meeting was <br /> 8 called to order at 6:45 p.m. Present: Thompson, Larson, Pelton. <br /> 9 Absent: Navin. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Motion by Pelton, second by Larson to approve March 1, 1995 <br /> 14 meeting minutes, motion carried unanimously. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 APPEARANCES <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Bill Bisek was unavailable to attend. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 North Metro was also unavailable to attend. Carl Saarion sent <br /> 21 documentation to answer the concerns and questions the committee <br /> 22 had. Park and Recreation requests to get North Metro Recreation <br /> 23 meeting minutes in their monthly packets. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Marty Asleson, Lino Lakes, presented ADA Title 2 program proposal <br /> 26 to pool cities' efforts for providing improved programs for <br /> 27 handicapped accessibility to parks and recreation programs. <br /> 28 Marty provided demographic information and examples of other <br /> 29 consortiums similar to that proposed. Marty's scope is focused <br /> 30 on structured recreation programs. Title 2 stated we must be <br /> 31 proactive in our approach to our programming costs may be <br /> 32 minimal. May be no more than joint advertising of programs. <br /> 33 Anoka County ARC may be coming on board to offer more tailored <br /> 34 programs, ie: swimming, bowling geared to handicap access. <br /> 35 Shoreview's program is integrated with general population <br /> 36 programming, but offers a person to assist participants as <br /> 37 needed. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Marty asked that we request our City Council to adopt a <br /> 40 resolution supporting this contortion. Initially no cost will be <br /> 41 involved other that attending contortion meetings to ID the <br /> 42 future of cooperative programs. Send to Marty Asleson, City of <br /> 43 Lino Lakes, 464 -5562 ext 181; 7204 Lake Drive, when passed. <br /> 44 Currently CTV has been complying with ADA Title 2 via physical <br /> 45 improvements to city facilities. This offers an opportunity to <br /> 46 ID and offer recreation opportunities for this population. <br /> 47 Previously, when P &R was approached last fall, this effort was <br /> 48 delegated to North Metro Recreation. It is now presented to P &R <br /> 49 to gain further support via the City Council resolution. This <br /> 50 should be approved ASAP to allow finding by Lino Lakes through <br /> 51 CDBG.
