This item shall be places at $1 under old
business, motion carried unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS

Renaming City Parks

Motion by Thompson, second by Larson to table renaming of parks
until May, so P &R can review the official action taken by City
Council on this matter. Per Larson, the City Council minutes
have been revised. Motion carried unanimously.

P &R is frustrated and displeased at the lack of procedure taken
by City Council regarding this matter. We feel it is
inappropriate for P &R to be asked for a rubber stamp after the
City Council has approved it and played it out in an emotionally
charged way in the press and before the families. Do we really
want to name our parks after murder victims? Is a more general
memorial for all deceased veterans and residents be more
appropriate? We feel a comprehensive look at all park names by
P &R or assigned subcommittee would be a more national, effective
and responsible approach. As it stands, City Council has once
again demoralized the members of P &R.
