The urgency here is to control development now so a pedestrian and <br /> bicycle friendly area is created. Developers would get something unique and everyone would benefit. <br /> Area C: Main Street <br /> The Minnesota Design Team in a report to Centerville suggested Main Street be an urban conduit from a <br /> downtown Centerville village by the lake to a commercial section by the freeway in area B. There are <br /> already plenty of people and bicycles on the shoulders of Main Street in the summer demonstrating that <br /> analysis is correct. The north side of Main Street is the best place for a trail as there is vacant property, a <br /> strip mall, and a convenience store on that side of the street. The one house that is close to the street may <br /> be torn down and a business put there, so as it develops into a more commercial street, construction for <br /> sections of the trail are possible. The urgency here is that the strip mall will be required to put in a <br /> walkway soon and this sidewalk should be consistent with a long-term plan for the trail along all of Main <br /> Street. <br /> Area D: "Sunset Park" Overlooking Centerville Lake <br /> The Minnesota Design Team saw this area as the "Town Square" of Centerville. A park and pier on <br /> Centerville Lake could coexist with a circular trail around Centerville Lake. The sketch in Figure 2 shows <br /> the intersection.
