911 to help police determine the time and areas within the City the police should focus on.
Council Member Nelson stated she felt this would tie up telephone lines to 911, since in the past
two weeks she has received at least a dozen calls at her home.
The current ordinance states snowmobiles are allowed to ride on the street 10 mph, following the
motor vehicle laws, the trails and the lakes, but are not allowed on private or public property.
Mayor Wilharber requested Council hold a public hearing in reference to snowmobiles in
Centerville. Mayor Wilharber added the City was concerned about safety in when re- writing the
firearm ordinance and should do so also in regard to snowmobiles.
Council Member Nelson requested a Public Hearing be added to the February 9` City Council
agenda, focusing on the current snowmobile ordinance and possible banning of snowmobiles
within the City.
Council Member Sweeney stated he would not like to a ban on snowmobiles. He feels only a few
people break the rules.
Jill Lien of 1810 Hayfield Road indicated she does not see much snowmobile traffic in her
neighborhood. Ms. Lien felt a large portion of the residents were unaware of the current
snowmobile ordinance. Ms. Lien noted there have not been many calls at City Hall inquiring
about the ordinance and/or restrictions by snowmobilers. Most of the calls have been complaint
calls pertaining to snowmobilers on private property.
Council Member Broussard Vickers, expressed her agreement with Ms. Essex's views and she
indicated her property is also trespassed upon by snowmobiles. Council Member Broussard
Vickers stated she feels there are a large number of snowmobilers who disobey the rules, not just
a few. Council Member Broussard Vickers added she would like additional information from the
police.
City attorney Jim Hoeft stated other communities are also facing this issue and are focusing on
enforcement. Council Member Sweeney commented a snowmobile club should be able to provide
the City with enforcement issues.
Slippery Streets
Council Member Sweeney stated he has received complaints from residents about the streets
being slippery, especially Main Street, Brian Drive and any entrance onto the county roads. Mr.
March added there were some areas by 73" and Mill road that were slippery as well.
VIII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Restructuring Proposal
