Parks & Recreation Committee
Meeting Minutes 01-06-10
In scheduling the 8K Run for 2010 Committee Member Branch picked the traditional weekend of
Fete des Lacs and scheduled the run for Saturday, August 7, 2010. This actually had to be set last
August (2009) to get into the Minnesota Distance Running publication. Per Committee Member
th
Branch, August 7 is the date Mr. Tom Lee will recommend to City Council we have the parade,
even though it will a different weekend than the Lion’s soft ball tournament and street dance. Due
to budget cuts, Fete des Lacs funding has been cut to the parade only. The only difference it will
make for the 8K Run is the committee will have to pay for the satellites. Many of the parade
volunteers in 2009 were also volunteers for the race.

Committee Member Branch said in 2009 we charged children less registration fee than for adult
runners, which he thought was a good idea and would continue into 2010. Adult’s pre-registration
will be $20, children under 15 years of age will be $10, and race day registration for all participants
will be $25. The actual cost is $40 per participant; these costs were offset by sponsors. There are
bags left over which were purchased by Creative Kids and can be used in 2010, saving this cost.
Committee Member Branch will ask Creative Kids to be sponsor again. Committee Member
Amundsen has been working on the T-shirt design and supplied the committee with a newer version,
which is the same logo, but in 2 colors. Chairperson Seeley suggested purchasing heavier type signs
that could be used for multiple events, either like a sandwich board or a real estate sign. This could
be used for the mile markers. Committee Member Branch suggested building them and offered to
play around with a few ideas and see what he could come up with. The thought was these signs
could be used for the 8K, garage sale days & flea market, movie or music in the parks, etc.

8K Website

The committee discussed the website Committee Member Branch has been working on, located at
http://web.me.com/patbranch/Site/Centerville_8K.html.

The proposal Committee Member Branch submitted for the committee’s review was approved and
signed by Chairperson Seeley. This will be submitted as part of the meeting minutes.

VI. UPDATES

Flea Market / Cleanup Days

Chairperson Seeley said she has been in contact with the group of volunteers who did the Good
Turn Event in 2009 and it is possible they would shift the date of their next event to coincide with
the Flea Market. This would make better use of volunteers and offer more options. Chairperson
Seeley would like something like ‘Look for more information on Good Turn/Flea Market Events to
be held this year in conjunction with Garage Sale Days in May’ added to the City Newsletter which
goes out this week.

Request of Charitable Gambling Funds from Dead Broke Saddle Club

Committee Member Amundsen had contacted some other Cities and suppliers of volleyball
equipment to try and determine what would be needed for a sand volleyball court. Committee
Amundsen said basically it is a square hole with sand in it. Public Works could possibly use a front
end loader or bobcat to do the work, though as this is still just a concept idea, Public Works has not
3 of 4
