City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />February 24, 2010 <br />IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS/UPDATES <br /> <br /> <br />1.City Administrator Dallas Larson <br /> <br />City Administrator Larson reported on the Trail Project easements, noting one easement <br />still needed to be resolved and should be completed by the following week. <br /> <br /> <br />2. Mayor Capra – 2010 Census <br /> <br />Mayor Capra reported she and Staff are consistently sent information on the Census. She <br />asked the citizens of Centerville, upon receipt of the Census this March, to please take ten <br />minutes to answer the few questions and return it. She added it saves tax payer dollars if <br />residents mail the Census back compared to the $60-$70 per Census form that isn’t <br />returned by mail, as a Census worker then has to visit your home to obtain the <br />information. She explained the importance of returning the Census stating that the <br />population may be decreasing and the State may lose some of the representatives’ seats, <br />as well as the data collected helps determine the locations of new schools, hospitals and <br />roads. <br /> <br />City Administrator Larson also mentioned that Census workers would not call residents <br />and ask for Social Security numbers, advising caution. Mayor Capra added if Census <br />workers do come to your residence to make sure they have proper identification. <br /> <br /> <br />3. I-35 Update <br /> <br />Mayor Capra reported on the I-35 Coalition meeting. She updated the Council noting the <br />construction is starting from the outside ramps and then continue internally. She <br />mentioned detours would be implemented noting there would be times of closure and the <br />projected completion date is June 2011. <br /> <br /> <br />4.Young Eagles Airplane rides and the Lions Club Fishing Contest <br /> <br />Mayor Capra thanked the Young Eagles for the plane rides given at the recent Lions <br />fishing contest. <br /> <br />Councilmember Paar also thanked the Lions Club for all the hard work done on the ice <br />fishing contest. He stated that his son took a flight from the Young Eagles and had a <br />great time. He thought the event was very well put together and successful mentioning it <br />is things like this that set the City of Centerville apart from other cities. <br /> <br /> <br />5.Tree Trimming <br /> <br />City Administrator Larson stated there would be tree trimming along the east side of <br />Centerville Lake this week, which would help increase the view the lake. Volunteers <br />would be out on Saturday to remove the brush. <br /> <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />
