Febn►ary 15, 2001 <br /> Councii Meeting Minutes <br /> Council Member Travis stated the people usually at the Council meetings are there in <br /> opposition to something and usually the main complaint is lack of knowledge. Council <br /> Member Travis stated any way the City can improve communication with residents is a <br /> good idea. <br /> Ms. Brenner questioned where Council would like to start. Council Member Broussard <br /> Vickers stated she thought it would be appropriate to start with the website and cable <br /> channel. Council Member Capra suggested the Committee prioritize the list and present <br /> it to Council. <br /> Council Member Nelson stated she would like a centralized way to distribute information <br /> ' from residents to Council Members such as one phone line that feeds into the voice mail <br /> of all Council Members. <br /> CounciT Member Nelson suggested an area on the website that residents could post <br /> questions for the City to answer. <br /> Council Member Travis requested the City use systems already in place but work to <br /> improve them. <br /> Mr. Maxch stated the citizen survey may be a valuable tool for communications and <br /> suggested the City use it and look into other alternatives to reach those that do not read <br /> newspapers or watch television. <br /> Mayor Swedberg suggested using information from The League of Minnesota Cities to <br /> get information on ways to inform citizens. <br /> Mr. March stated Council would need to assign some costs to the technology and time to <br /> inform residents. If the communication suggested would be overtaxing to current City <br /> capabilities that would need to be discussed in the report, as the City may need to hire <br /> additional staff. <br /> Council Member Capra stated she would like to make sure the Committee does not run <br /> into conflicts of interest by having members benefiting financially from suggestions <br /> , made by being on the Committee. <br /> Motion bv Mavor Swedberg, seconded bv Council Member Travis to authorize the <br /> formation of an Ad-hoc Citizen Communications Task Force and a�point Theresa <br /> Brenner as chair. Resolution #01-003 Cable Franchise Extension <br /> f � <br /> ' Mr. March explained the cable franchise is in negotiations to extend the franchise until <br /> ' May 28, 2001. <br /> Motion bv Council Member Broussard Vickers, seconded by Council Member <br /> Capra to extend the cable franchise to Mav 28, 2001.
