___ � ;, _ IV. SUB-CONIlVIITTTE REPORTS 1. Parade Committee Members Thill and Rehbine submitted a draft budget. Committee Member Thill stated that the budget had increased due to postage and the anticipated additions of several bands. Committee Members Thill and Rehbine stated that they are continuing to progress on mailings, parade applications, route approval and permits to obtain same. Discussion ensued regarding volunteers, the amount of volunteers during the planning stages, concerns regarding a quorum with several members participating on the same sub- committees and amount of volunteers needed for the event itself. Chair DeVine questioned whether a line-up had been arranged and Committee Member Thill reported that a line-up had not been completed to date; however, it was anticipated that the parade would be larger than last year and more organized. Chair DeVine encouraged the Parade Sub-Committee to invite either Police Chief Heckman or Assistant Police Chief Makkela to attend meetings to offer comments and suggestions. Discussion ensued in regaxds to last years $5,000 budget and the possibility of obtaining participation of bands. Committee Member Rehbine stated that High School bands would not be participating due to the lack of schools having bands and/or their touring for the year is completed subsequent to the Fourth of July. The Committee is attempting to obtain information on drum and bugle corps, etc. Committee Member Thill stated that he has attempted to contact the individual in charge of the Shriners; however, attempts have failed. Discussion ensued regarding charging an entrance fee/donation for parade participates I and the need to generate additional funding due to the increased budget. Funding could be used for refreshments, plaques, etc. Committee Member Sweeney stated that due to last year's problems with BearCom, the Committee would be receiving a discount on walkie-talkies this year. � 1.5 Softball Tournament Chair DeVine stated that he recently spoke with Mr. Bill Bisek in regards to a softball tournament. A representative from the Minnesota Recreation Association stated that the City of Centerville, Fete des Lacs City Ceiebration, has an extremely good chance of hosting the regional tournament for Class C or D teams. It was stated that Class C or D teams would be hosted in the City of White Bear Lake and the other location had yet to be determined. Chair DeVine stated that Laurie LaMotte Park meets the requirements needed to host same. Chair DeVine stated that Fete des Lacs Committee would not have to provide prize money or advertise for teams. The Committee would however, have to charge admission and parking, if desired. Committee Member Peil questioned when a confirmation would be received. Chair DeVine stated that information was to be forwarded, however it had yet to be received. 2. Street Dance Committee Member Peil reported that they have received a contract to book the "Originals" for Saturday evening. Committee Member Peil stated that the "Originals" Page 2 of 5
