Mr. Jeff Turner of 7151 Peterson Trail stated he un.derstands the concern for increased
traffic on Shad Avenue. However, he believes if Peterson Trail was a dead end that
wouid divide traffic between Old Mill Road and Shad Avenue. The least amount of
damage is done and both streets share in increased traffic.
Mr. Bowman stated Mr. Turner's proposal would direct traffic onto Shad Avenue that
wasn't there before. Peterson Trail is a major north/south traffic path for many people
and if it were closed off there would be increased traffic on other streets.
Mayor Swedberg indicated there are concerns for traffic management, which can be
mitigated, but the question is how to proceed.
Council Member Nelson inquired as to whether dead-ending Peterson Trail would have
an impact on Mr. Drilling's project. Mr. Drilling indicated it wouid not hurt the project to
dead end Peterson Trail. Mr. Drilling stated he would not want to see the project hinging
on dead-ending Peterson Trail, as tzaffic flow on Peterson Trail has been a concern for
many years.
Council Member Nelson agreed with Council Member Capra in her concern for i
automobile and pedestrian traffic crossing Peterson Trail. She is not necessarily in favor I
of dead ending Peterson Trail but it would be good to have Planning and Zoning review I
it. I
I
Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated the Peterson Trail and other traffic issues
are separate from this issue she does not see where the City would have the ability or the '
desire to stop this project until the bigger issues concerning traffic are resolved. The
residents of Shad Avenue and the residents of Peterson Traii will never agree on how to
solve the traffic issue. !
Council Member Broussard Vickers expressed concern for sending this back to Planning i
and Zoning as this process was started under the former Council and it seems somewhat ',
unfair to send it back because Council intends to change the process. Mr. Drilling is
aware of what he needs to provide to Council in order to receive final approval. Mr.
Drilling can work with Staff to provide enough information to prepare his final site plan
for the next Council meeting.
Council Member Nelson stated she was okay with not sending it back to the Planning and
Zoning Commission as long as the Park and Recreation Committee has seen and
approved the plan for the trail.
Council Member Capra inquired as to whether there was a Park and Recreation
Committee meeting before the next Council meeting.
Mr. March indicated there was not a Park and Recreation Committee meeting before the
next Council meeting. He then indicated the Park and Recreation Committee has
approved the location of the trail.
Mayor Swedberg inquired as to why there aren't two entrances onto Main Street.
