How about City Hall making it
known that there is an Email subscription list and if anyone wants to get on that list, just contact City Hall?
Then, if anyone wants to hear what is going on, they can tap into that list, and vice versa, if anyone has a
suggestion or complaint or anything else, it can become commonly known very quickly. Here are a few possible
guidelines to make it work:
• There is a low tech way to get this started right away (recommended right now, see the next 2 bullets) and a
high tech way to manage a list server. The high tech way (recommended for a long term goal) would be to
establish a city "List Server" and requires research on services available and costs (if any). This kind of
service allows retrieval of past messages and other features.
• The low tech way is to have City Hall keep and "control" an Email list. I recommend we begin this right ,
away and could start with the above list (if they are all interested) plus members of all committees. Double
check with the above to make sure that is the Email address they would want used. !
City Hall would send out a message, for example, on the first of every month to all people on the list saying,
this is the Centerville Email list, if anyone wants to be added ar removed, contact City Hall at <Email i
name> or <phone number>. Anyone sending Email would use the set of names sent for the month. j
I
Here is a summary of the meeting with Jane Krentz.
I
Attending were Jane Krentz, Christopher Runquist (her assistant), Mari Nelson, Dick Travis, Mary Capra, Linda
Broussard Vickers, Wayne LeBlanc, and 5 or 6 others from Centerville and Lino Lakes. '
Wayne had prepared handlouts on a Freeway Interchange suggestion and a Pedestrian Bridge suggestion so I
those were done first. The text of the two suggestions is proided below without the pictures (because the
pictures would make the Email message too big). The Freeway Interchange was well recieved, even by the Lino
Lakes people. The Lino Lakes people complained about Anoka County highways wanting to expand too many
roads in their community, but they were in favor of attempting to move higher speed through type traffic onto
the freeway instead of trying to push it onto some other city street. There was discussion about a study that
found through traffic did NOT contribute to local economies. In a message sent later, Ray Devine seemed to
have a concern about losing business with a freeway bypass. My perception is that Centerville, because it is the
only thoroughfare for roughly 12 miles, will always have more traffic than it wants. A freeway connection up
north, in a best case scenario, is probably 10 to 15 years away. And even with the freeway connection up north,
' there will still be plenty of people who will prefer to cut through Centerville to get to their destination. The
geography of the area causes Main Street to be heavily used. In any case, all concerns need to be addressed. The
botom line is that Jane's office will send information on the wording of a particular "Resoultion" that needs to
be approved by Centerville, Lino Lakes, Hugo, and perhaps Columbus Township and some others. That will be
the challenge.
Wayne also discussed the need for a Pedestrian Bridge across I35E to connect trails in Hugo and beyond with
trails in the Chain of Lakes Park and beyond. Jane's office will also look into that to suggest next steps.
1
