• . LOCAL TRAIL CONNECTiONS GRANT PROGRAM <br /> Information Sheet <br /> 2001 <br /> Deadlines/ Apolications must be received no later than February 28, 200'!. Pending the availability <br /> Important Dates: of funds, reimbursement grant awards wiil be announced in Juty 2001. <br /> Program Purpose: The emphasis of this program is to promote access between people and <br /> desirable destinations, not to deveiop significant new recreation facilities. Its <br /> primary purpose is to complete trail connections between where people live (e.g., <br /> residential areas within cities, and communities) and significant public recreation <br /> facilities (e.g., parks and other traiis}. Priority wiil be given to residential connections to <br /> siate and regiona! facilities. A secondary purpose is to link existing trail segments. <br /> How it works: Provides reimbursement grants to local units of govemment for trai! projects or serves <br /> • as a partial local "match" for a TEA-21 Enhancement Projecf. <br /> Eligibie Cities, counties, and townships. <br /> Applicants: <br /> Local Support: Local/area support must be demonstrated. <br /> Minimum Project must result in a trail linkage that is immediately available for use by the general <br /> Requirements: public. There must be demonstrated compatibifity of the uses provided by the project <br /> proposal with uses provided by the recreation facility. <br /> Eligible Projects: Land acquisition and traii deveiopment. However, acquisition of trail right-of-way wil! <br /> only be eligible when it is proposed in conjunction with trail development. Lands <br /> purchased with this fund will require a"perpetua� easement for recreational trail � <br /> purposes," and trails devefoped with this fund will require a twenty-year maintenance <br /> commitment by the project sponsor. Projects inside state park boundaries and state <br /> traii corridors and elements of the Regional Open Space System in the Twin Cities <br /> Metro System are ineligible. <br /> Reimbursement A maximum of 50 percent of the total eligible project costs. <br /> Grant Amount: Minimum-$5,000. Maximum-$50,000. <br /> Local Match: Fifty percent "cash match" for eligible elements of the project proposal. Neither this <br /> funding source nor the "cash match" can be used for labor services and/or to meet <br /> existing payroll (i.e., oniy contract services, materiais, and suppiies are reimbursable). <br /> Match must not be other state funds, Metropolitan Council Grants, or National <br /> Recreational 7rail Program (formerly Symms). <br /> Project Period: !n most cases funding is only available through June 30, 2003. At that time, the project <br /> must be completely developed and all billings submitted to the DNR. In certain cases, <br /> this period may be extended for projects receiving TEA-21 Enhancement fund'+ng. <br /> Disbursement of Grants are reimbursable.
