current commercial development west of Peterson Trail. This would also help build the tax
base for the City. I am not sure there would be a favorable reaction from adjacent property
owners, but I think it could be a benefit to the overall community. I spoke to Tom Schlavin
(Chiropractor next to City Hall) last night about the proposai. He thought it was a great
idea. If the block across the street from City Hall would be redeveloped, I would not like to
see another strip mali that was a mirror image of what we already have in the community.
A public hearing is scheduled at the Planning and Zoning Commission in December.
* Anoka County has been cleaning many of the ditches along Main Street this week. It
appears that the ditch in front of City Hall and the ditch east of the fire hall driveway are at
a higher elevation than the ditches on the noth side of Main Street, just east of Shad
Avenue. According to Paul and a representative from Anoka County that was on site, this
may be causing some of the drainage issues in the swale that runs north of Main Street
between the backyards ofi the residents living befinreen Shad Avenue and Brian Drive. Paul
was going to inquire about renting RO-SO's backhoe to muck out the ditches using pubiic
works staff. This dry fall would be a perfect time to complete such a project. It appears the
ditches have silted in about one-half to three-quarters of a foot.
' * I had three phone caNs yesterday from Caro! Charois. She is one of the owners of 1687
Main Strest (the big white house north of the church). She is pursuing her plans to remodel
the home into a bed and breakfast. She wishes to build a carriage house that would have
units above the garage area. She will be bringing in plans in the future.
* Reminder! Council meets next Monday. City Hall is closed Thursday and Friday. Get
ready for turkey!
11/19/99
