I asked Mr. Yantos if the County would consider a
second phase to the project. There is enough land on the site to add another 16 unit '
building. There has never been a vacancy since the faci(ity was opened. I am to(d there is i
a lengthy waiting list. The project currently cash flows. My thoughts are that if there were ,
additional units available, it may lessen the financial exposure to the City and the County
HRA. When the facility was buitt, the City had to pledge that it would cover any shortfal(s in
the operation of the facility. An additional thought I had was if a second building was built,
instead of building another interior community room, look at constructing the next building
with a three season porch or a gazebo on a large outside patio. That way one buiiding
would have a recreational area available in the pleasant months and the other building
would have a recreational space available for inclement weather.
" I received a call from Jon Olsen (Anoka County Highway Engineer). Mr. Olson indicated
that AnQka County was sending a)etter of support to Washington County in their efforts to
secure federal funding for improving Main Stree. From what Jon mentioned, Washington
County would like to improve Main Street from 135E to Highway 61. This improvement
would consist o€ building the road with four lanes and turn lanes. The federal funding is
competitive and funding could be available from 2001-2004. This project would not involve
Main Street west of the 135E interchange.
* A gentleman stopped af City Hall this week and inquired about the use of the old LaMotte
Store as a location for an antiques shop.
9/ 17/99
