There were 138 cities that applied for the grant, of which 30 were funded. The
City now needs to select a vendor and get volunteers to install the equipment. Mr. March also
stated that when the contractor sweeps the streets after the sealcoating is complete, the left over
gravel will be used as a base for the playground equipment at the park. This should start
sometime ne week Mr. March mentioned that the LaMotte Park Grant application was not
funded, but the Trail Linkage Grant will probably go through. There is a meeting on July 8, at
6:30 p.m. with some of the residents, the DNR, Centerville City Council, and Lino Lakes to
discuss further where the trail will link.
Ms. Fairbrother (speaking on behalf of the CNN) stressed that the CNN would like to be included
when Park and Recreation starts discussing pIacement of the play equipment at Acorn Creek
Park. There are 22 volunteers willing to help with the construction of the play equipment, adding
there will hopefully be more when the time comes.
Mr. March explained that before anything could be done at the Acorn Creek Park, there would
have to be an Environmental Assessment. This assessment certifies that no animals, protected
species or wetlands will be disturbed. The assessment is approximately a 30 day process, and the
City cannot expend any money until the City gets the approval.
Mr. Larson mentioned that when the Tracie McBride Park was put in by the City, there were
more volunteers than needed. Everything worked out great. Adding, if the labor is all done by
volunteers, maybe the City can purchase more equipment. If the labor costs have to come out of
the grant, than that would mean less equipment.
Mr. Fairbrother mentioned he was advised by the vendor they have been working with that the
fees quoted did not include labor costs.
Itr. Navin questioned if there was a time frame in which the City has to complete the park?
Mr. March explained the City has one year to use the gram. Adding, the Environmental
Assessment takes approximately 30 days, and then the City would need 2-3 weeks for bid
publication. The City will send letters to those who the City knows are interested in bidding
along with running an ad in the paper. Mr. March felt construction would be sometime around
2
