Mary Capra will be initiating the
' changes and polling committee members for approvaUadjustments with in the next week.
The presentation of the awards were also addressed. Committee member Capra suggested
presenting the Citizen of the ear Award at a"Joint Committee" meeting. Tim Rehbine
suggested that the Business of the Year Award be presented at the Annual Business
Dinner.
The group took some time to go over the Sta.r City Program, and the Five year goals and
objectives. Chairperson Rehbine stated that we have accomplished a lot of the goals, and
that many of them are on-going.
The group touched on the County Road 14 project. Nlary Capra stated that the County
Road 14 task group had requested that a member of the Minnesota Design Team
accompany the group when they take their ideas to Anoka County. After talking with
Penny Simonson and Lucy Thompson of the Minnesota Design Team, Mary Capra
concluded that going with the task group is something that the Design Team does not
typically do, but that they would be willing to write up a synopsis to clarify the ideas to
satisfy the engineers. Norma Essex questioned if Anoka County was planning to widen
the road. Wayne LeBlanc responded by saying that the County Road 14 task group is
trying to stay with in the Design Teams plan by having three lanes or less and by reducing
the flow of traffic by re-routing. Wayne LeBlanc also indicated that Anoka County is
listening, but the engineers feel differently.
Mary Capra stated one option that could be very helpful, is to make County Road 14 into
a"Historic Parkway". Wayne Leblanc added that if Centerville and Anoka County call
County Road 14 a Historic Parkway, it could give the impression to drivers to slow down.
Norma Essex questioned what the other tasks groups were, and was interested in hearing
more about the Church task group, There was a lengthy discussion about the church and
the issues currently facing the church. Some of the issues include worship and education
space, collaboration with St. Johns in Hugo, the retirement of Father Wolter and the
transition to a new priest. Mary Capra stated that she would like to get St. Genevieve's on
the National Historic Registry. St. Genevieve is about 140 years old, and is one of the
oldest parishes in the Archdiocese of St. PauUMinneapolis.
The discussion then began to focus on ather Design Team areas:
Wayne LeBlanc took some time to explain the snowmobile trail issues. The primary
problem that we see is the east connection.
Wayne LeBlanc questioned the status of the new public works building, and Jim March
stated that the City is currently looking at two eisting buildings on two different
properties in the industrial park. Jim March also stated that on February 12, 1999 the
City Council will be doing a"drive-around" to look at the sites. Wayne LeBlanc
