MEMO
DATE : February 25, 1999
TO : Park and Recreation Committee
FRClM : Jim March
RE : Grant Updates
*::**********:***************:*************
I wanted to provide the Committee with an update on the grant applications I am completing. I
will not be in attendance Wednesday evening due to a tri-city police department meeting I must
attend. Intern James Bownik will be present to discuss the outdoor recreation grant and to
answer questions at your public hearing. James is being retained part-time to assist me in
completing the outdoor recreation grants.
FISHING PIER
I submitted the fishing pier grant application to the DNR. The proposed location for the fishing
pier is the surplus St. Paul Water Utility praperty across the street from LaMotte Park. We are
still waiting on the appraisal of this property. A fishing pier grant sounds probable for the year ,
2000. The response letter from the DNR is included in your packet.
COOPERATNE TRAIL LINKAGE GRANT
On Friday, I submitted the Cooperative Trail Linkage Grant. The grant was written to ask for
50% of the costs to construct a paved trail system through LaMotte Park to connect to the Anoka
County Regional Park Trail. The application was limited to eight pages. I included the draft
narrative to be included in your packet. Also included in the application were letters of support
from the County, cost breakdown by the City Engineer, letter of support from a neighborhood
group al included in your packet. The grant a.rnount requested is $15,80Q. The 50% match
would be from park dedication fees.
OUTD04R RECREATTON GRANTS
I am proposing that two Outdoor Recreation Grants be submitted this year. One application
would be on behalf of Acorn Creek Park and one would be on behalf of LaMotte Park. The
maximum grant amount is $50,000 per project. The grant requires a 50% match. A
neighborhood group has formed to provide input to Park and Recreation in regards to the
development of the Acorn Creek Park. A public hearing is a requirement of the grant application.
The grant is due at the end of March. Please let me know if you have any questions fotlowing
your meeting. Thanks!
