,.-'- RESOLUTION NO. 2 ---- RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AMEND~NT OF MINNESOTA STATUTES TO ALLOW FOR THE .PAYMENTOF PENSION BENEFITS AFTER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. j.J WHEREAS, the Cities of Circle Pines, Lino Lakes, and Center- ville have entered into a joint powers ~greement to create the Centennial Fire Department; and WHEREAS, the Circle Pines and Centerville Fire Departments were merged to Qreate the Cep~ennial Fire Department; and WHEREAS, the Centennial Fireman's Relief Assocation was in- corporated tg proviqe pension benefits to members of the new Fire Department; and . WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes required that the Circle Pines and Centerville Fireman's Relief Associa.tionsbe dis~olved and that all pensign f~ds bed~stributed; and ' ' WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes prohibit the Centennial Fireman's Relief Association from distr;buting pensiqn benefits for at ~east ten years, an4 then only on a pa.it~ally vested basis; and WHEREAS, member~ of the fOrmer Circle Pines and centervil1e Fire Departments will reach twenty years()f fire service bl1t will be prohibited from receiving a pension due to Sta~utory limitations; then ' 1 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Centerv1t~e , hereby supports the adoption of special egis- lation that will allow the Centennial Fireman's Relief Association to pay a pension to each member o~ the previous Circle Pines and Centerville Fire Departments, after 20 years of Qombined service. S~ch pension to be dete~ined by the ~embe~'s accrued liapil~ty in the Centennial Relief Association; and . .. . -, BE IT FURTH~R RESOLVED, that Senators Novak and Dahl, and Representatives Voss and Quinn be requested to work toward passage of such legislation during the current session of the Legislature.
