Parks & Recreation Committee
Meeting Minutes 08 -04 -10
irrigation system at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. The diagram shows the placement of all the
sprinkler heads with the small ones in the ball fields recessing into the ground and won't be seen. The
larger ones around the perimeter are 8" plates similar to what is used in golf courses. There was a
second option presented that were larger than 8" and are more like what is used in agricultural fields.
Committee Member Amundsen asked if any one had ever seen these used in a park and felt they were
way too big for our purpose. Someone will get hurt or they will get damaged. Committee Selander
agreed that these were not meant for a park, they would encourage children to play on them and they
would be loud disturbing the neighbors. There is a significant price difference which is why Mr.
Larson and Mr. Palzer encouraged Mr. Statz to look at them. The pump being used is capable of
pumping 500 gallons per minute and while irrigation would occur during off peak park hours, they
would need to run for 6 to 8 hours from like midnight to 8 am. It was questioned how much water we
need to pump to meet the requirements of the project. Mr. Statz said an inch a week from the pond
watering 12 acres of park requires minim 400 gallons per minutes at 80 PSI to get rid of the
amount of water we need to. It was also questioned who was going to maintain this vast system of
pipes and heads? The committee's recommendation to Mr. Statz and to City Council was to not use
the largest heads for the above listed reasons.
Mr. Statz also informed the committee that there is a possibility of the Fire Department's garage
currently located at the old Public Works building moving to Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. This
will then be shared jointly for storage between the Fire Department and Public Works.
IV. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES
July 7, 2010 Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes
Motion was made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Chairperson Peterson to approve
the July 7, 2010 Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes as is. All in favor. Motion
carried unanimously.
V. COMMITTEE BUSINESS
Adding a Second Meeting in September Dedicated to 2011 Planning
Chairperson Branch requested adding a discussion of a second Parks & Recreation Committee
meeting in September to talk about projects and finances for the following year. The regularly
scheduled September meeting includes an hour presentation from a Master Gardener on the Emerald
Ash Borer so the agenda will be relatively short.
The committee opted for Wednesday, September I V h at 6:30. Ms. Stephan will ensure this is posted.
VI. UPDATES
2010 — 8K Run
Chairperson Branch updated the committee on last minute details and job assignments of the
upcoming race. At this point the race has taken in $1580 between registrants and sponsors per Mr.
Mike Jeziorski, Finance Director. The committee is concerned at the number of runners registered at
this point (45) but, is hopeful more will register at same day registration. Right Foot Running is
4 of 6
