Minutes <br />Sheriff Contract Group Meeting <br />December 18, 2008 <br />reported that a change in graphics has been discussed, and that it was his <br />recommendation to retain the same graphics for 2009. He cited the state of the <br />economy, and noted that a fair amount of time has already been spent on <br />researching this matter. <br />Urban suggested the idea of temporary signage on vehicles as a way to <br />increase visibility. <br />Short pointed out • that there. are an increasing number of community events that <br />require .Sheriff's Department. presence. It was noted that this is a growing trend. <br />that needs to be watched. <br />There was discussion about inviting City Council / Town Board Members to <br />attend a meeting to get a better idea on how the. Contract Group operates. <br />Urban advised the Group that he provides monthly reports about the meetings <br />to his City Council and Public Safety Commission. It was the Group's. <br />consensus that it would be beneficial to have a special meeting, possibly in the <br />spring, at which time individual council members / board members will be invited <br />to attend. The meeting will focus on the overall operation including key items <br />including traffic control and crime prevention. It was suggested that this <br />meeting be placed on the long range planning list. <br />There was discussion about the value of the North Oaks CSO Position. The <br />success of the program was confirmed by Councilman Dunleavy. In response to <br />a question about an opportunity for other communities to contract for North <br />Oaks' CSO, Dunleavy responded that this will not be an option. <br />It was the Group's consensus to accept the 2008 Ramsey County Sheriff Annual <br />Review, including today's comments, and that it be passed on to the Sheriff for <br />discussion at next month's meeting. <br />NATIONAL NIGHT OUT / MINNESOTA NIGHT TO UNITE <br />It was the Group's consensus to not change the date for the 2009 night but <br />event, and to go with Minnesota's Night to Unite, to be held on the first Tuesday <br />in August, 2009. <br />BUDGET RECONCILIATION <br />Altendorfer reported that there will be no additional requests for funding for 2008, <br />however, he advised the Group that the funds saved by postponing hiring the <br />additional Relief Deputy position have been used up for gas and overtime. <br />There was discussion about the affordability of the Relief Deputy in 2009, and if it <br />would make sense to implement CSO's as opposed to a Relief Deputy, with the <br />
