Comprehensive. Plan <br />Gem Lake, Minnesota <br />Policy: <br />The City will continue to cooperate with and support high quality <br />elementary and secondary public education for residents of Gem <br />Lake. <br />11.7 Health Facilities <br />At present, there are no hospital facilities in Gem. Lake or ii, 4n-y of <br />the contiguous municipalities adjoining. it. The closest hospital <br />facility's St. Jo. is-FIospital in Maplewood, approximately two mules <br />away. <br />Policy: <br />Gem Lake should cooperate with other. local governments in <br />encouraging,a hospital facility within a more -convenient proximity. <br />11.8 Outdoor Recreational Facilities <br />There are no publicly held open spaces or recreational facilities <br />Within the community. All existing outdoor recreation with the <br />commanitymust currently occur on (a) privately developed Iands; (6) <br />vacant lotk.or (c) the streets. <br />Policies: <br />a. Consistent with the intention to .acquire �ublie 6pen spice, a <br />neighborhood oriented park will be.prmided as the community <br />develops. This might inblude a:picnic ground, a ball field, tennis <br />courts and playground. facilities. <br />b: The first preference for a community'parlr shall be in me northeast <br />section of the community. <br />C. The community will continue to rely on Ramsey Coogtfor <br />development. of larger natural `resource based recrea y for <br />facilities.. <br />d. The*Qty willexplore. bicycle trail -options and in providing access <br />to regional trails. <br />e. The City -will consider rezoning the golf course to a recreational <br />based honing district to ensure that remains recreational in nature. <br />12.0 Plari lmpleitentation <br />The goals -and policies Of the Comprehensive Platt are designed to aid' <br />City. staff, the PI4h. mg COminission and the City Council in making <br />sound decisions that shape the future development of the City of Gem <br />Lake.46d. reflect the wants and needs of its citizens. <br />Page 57 <br />
