SEVENTY - THIRD MEETING - VILLAGE OF GEM LAKE COUNCIL <br />SEPTEI1,IBER 21st 1965 - HOFFMANS CORNERS HALL <br />1. THE MAYOR CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AT 8:50 PM. <br />2. THE CLERK CALLED THE ROLL - <br />PRESENT - H. Hoffman, Gray, Morgan and D. Hoffman <br />ABSENT - A. Hansen, and Arcand. <br />Also present as visitor Dick Hansen. <br />3. HENRY HOFFMAN MOVED AND GRAY SECONDED THAT THE READING OF THE <br />MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING HELD AUGUST 17th 1965 BE AND <br />HEREBY IS DISPENSED WITH - ALL AYES. <br />. PRESENTATIONS FROM THE FLOOR - none <br />a. The mayor asked D. Hansen id he had any questions and he said,no. <br />5. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES - <br />a. The clerk read a letter dated August 24th 1965 from Bemis, <br />chairman of the planning committee in which he state that the <br />planning committee recommends council approval of the new <br />Birkeland plan for the Burlap Lounge. Hoffman moved and Gray <br />seconded that the council approve this recommendation with the <br />parking improvements mentioned in the letter and that the Bemis <br />letter of August 24th,1965 be made a part of this record. All ayes. <br />6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br />r q, The clerk read aletter from Robert B. Hawkind, attorney for <br />North Oaks Village in which he recommends that the Villages <br />contracting with the Ramsey County Sheriff, agree to transfer <br />from the reserve method of iiorkmenâ–şs Compensation to the use of <br />commercial insurance, which is cheaper and more effective. <br />Hoffman moved and Gray seconded that Gem Lake approve the change. <br />e.11 ayes. <br />7. NEW BUSINESS - Gray Moved and Hoffman seconded the following items: - <br />a. Hold Village election on Tuesday November 2nd 1965. <br />b. Authorize election notice and filing of candidates notice. <br />c. Appoint election judges as follows: Mrs. John Daniels, Miss <br />Eileen Bigelow,Mrs. Schifsky, ( alternates, Mrs. Donnelly, <br />Mrs. Opstad and Mrs. Oehler). <br />Offices to be filled at election are: - <br />ONE CLERK - term two years ( Morgan) <br />ONE CONSTABLE - term two years ( Schifsky) <br />ONE TRUSTEE - term three years ( F.ansen) <br />ONE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE - term two years ( Oehler ) <br />8. REPORTS OF VILLAGE OFFICERS :- <br />a. The clerk made a verbal report of current balances which are <br />$L,561.58 ( including Q,000 dollars in savings bank). It was the <br />opinion of the council and was moved,by Hoffman and seconded by <br />Gray that the tax levy for 1965 be $40000 ( $3,500) last year, <br />all ayes. <br />
