Engagement & Racial Equity <br />The County Road E corridor serves a broad segment of the three communities both. residentially and <br />commercially, There is an array of .employment opportunities alongthe corridor including entry level <br />retail and food service, professional services., manufacturing, education, social services and more. <br />Additionally there is a vast amount of..: socioeconomic diversity among the residents in.the corridorfrom <br />student housing for Century College students, supportive housing forfa.mi€les Who. have experienced <br />housing instability at Solid Ground, to exparisive.estates in Gem Lake in addition to the variety of multi- <br />family and single.family housing in all three communities. <br />Engagement for the County Road E Corridor Planning project .would be modeled. on the Rice -La rperjteur <br />Vision Plan, with an advisory council comprised of elected.officiaIs, county and. city staff in addition to a <br />citizen advisory group drawn from residents, business owners, area employees, service organizations <br />and. other interested stakeholders. The output.of the project:would. draw from community input with <br />intentionality in the inclusion of voices, perspectives and insights'.of people who are typically under or <br />unrepresented in such planning efforts including: <br />• the racially, culturally and. economically diverse student bodies of Century College, White Bear <br />Lake Area 5cboo Is, arid thern ultiple private: and charter schools .on or near the corridor and their. <br />farhilies4 <br />• residents of Solid Ground arid Century. Hills Townhomes,.v.ery law -income rental housing; Willow <br />Wood Apartments,. very -low income senior housing; and Hoffman Place, affordable housing <br />people. with. d.ifferent abilities including physical and cognitive abiIities,:and: their caregivers.,. <br />including.residents of Gable Pines and The.Waters,.senior housing with. supportive.services, <br />differently abled students and members of the Northeast Residence and. Phoenix Alternative <br />communities` <br />people who work in the.reto11, restaurant and service businesses in the corridor; particularly` <br />those earning lower -level wages <br />seniors <br />Additionally, engagement efforts will include seeking participation from the numerous faith <br />communities, users of Vadnais Sports Center, and users of the White Bear Lake YMCA. <br />Without being overly prescriptive.of the goals identified in a final report prior to the process of engaging <br />the community, a priority for the.study will be to identify how to best .leverage county and regional <br />investmehts.in the corridor, including the. Rush Line, Bruce Vento 7rall.and Vadnais Sports Center to <br />increase equitable. racial;. eco n o mid :a rid health outcomes by con netting. people to jobs, services and <br />activities that enhance their quality of life..
