I have gotten to <br />know Owen over the past year -as.his Chemistry teacher, J am confident that Owen would.be a <br />wonderful Gem Lake Scholarship -awarded as he is an unbelievably determined individual who <br />has an unmatchable work. efhic. <br />The past school year was a challenge for all students. Hillft4rmy was one,. of the few <br />schools with in person learning, but students could be.quarautined at home.for two. weeks of a <br />time. Unforturwely; Owen, was one of my students who had. to Zoom into class for a period. of <br />-time. Laroking at his grades,. you would have never guessed that. Owen was the perfect example <br />of what a student teaming from home should look like. His communication skills are truly what <br />brought him to be so sumessf d 1n. chemistry: Owen was determined to not let the fact he was not <br />in the classroom set him back. Owen consistently emailed with questions and was willing to. put <br />in the extra effort to make.sure .he was. understanding .the.complex topics of chemistry. When. he <br />came back to school, I didlmotbave to take time to catch him up as he already knew what needed <br />to be done because oi'this cominuaucation. and his organization. <br />Owen continued to excel in the classroom. I think my favorite thing about Owen is he <br />was always willing to help other students as wel 1. His confidence ien the subject weir not used to <br />boast, hint used to help others. become more comfortable in the class, Not every student who <br />excels: in a subject- is as selfless as Owen, and this is why I chose to award him with.. <br />Flill-Murray .i.
