CITY OF GEM LAKE <br />11CSOLUTION NO.2006-35 <br />14 SEPTEMBER 2006 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF ADJACENT <br />COMMUNITIES. TO ABANDON THE BURLi.NGTON NORTHERN RAILROAD <br />TRACKS AND TO SUPPORT EXTENSION'OF TH.E BRUCE VENTO TRAIL <br />NORTHWARD FROM BUERKLE ROAD THROUGH WHITE BEAR LAKE. <br />WHEREAS,. the City .Council of the .City of Gem Lakehas, for more.than a. decade, offered it's support of the.extensiop <br />c�f•.the Bruce Vento Trail north of Ramsey County Road D through Vadnais I Bights, Gem Lake, and White Bear Township to. <br />White Bear Lake; and, <br />WI•IERE AS, the.City Council of the City of Gem Lake understands that. the City of White Bear Lake continues to work <br />with the, Burlington Northern, the iktinriesota.Commerciai.Railroad, Ramsey Cotu>.ty; State and other officials in pursuit of <br />creating this extension of the. Bruce Vento Trail; and; <br />WHEREAS, the City Council -of the Cityof Gem Lake believes that. equal or improved facilities for offloading bulk <br />plastics as an alternative to the: Buerkle Road site exist in White Bear Township and the City of Gem. Lake; and* <br />WHEREAS;.the City Council of the City. of Gem Lake has observed a need for.safe passage for biking and hiking <br />thiouL-h and to or from the City of Gem Lake, attd <br />WHEREAS, the. -City Council ofthe City of Gem Lake has begun review:of-potential additional possible westward <br />connections front. a noithern extension of the Bruce Vento Trail that. could tie into traits in communities to the west.of Gem <br />1,ake; now,.th.emfore, be it <br />RESdLV10; tile. City Council of the. City of Gem Lake extends. it's support tor- te.staffand elected officials or the City <br />of White bear Lake in pursuit of the. extension of the Bruce Vento Trail north of it's current terminus at Buerkle Road <br />tltrou-h White Bear Lake, and, be it <br />.FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Count:il of the City of Gem Lake encourages Ramsey County and the State of <br />M i+irlesota to provide their full stipport.of the extension of the Bruce Vento Trail north. -of it <br />'s'curtdnt terminus at Btmi'kle <br />Road through White Bear Lake.. <br />'Tlie foregoing.
