CITY OF GEM LAKE <br />NPDES - MS4 SWPPP <br />I BMW DESCRIPTION SHEET I <br />A. Unique Identification Number: 5-04-R <br />B. Name or Type of BMP: Alternative Treatment Systems <br />C. BMP Description: The City encourages alternative treatment systems in the (re)development project review process and will work with WMO's <br />to identify feasible options on a case -by -case basis. Options such as surmountable curb with grassed swales; rainwater gardens; bioretention areas <br />and other BMP's will be considered and encouraged. These practices are often very effective and an innovative way of handling storm water <br />runoff. <br />D. Minimum Control Measure Addressed: Post -Construction Storm Water management <br />E. Describe the measurable that will be used to determine success or benefits of this BMP: <br />1. Count the number and type of alternative BMP's constructed annually (e.g. rainwater gardens, infiltration basins, bioretention areas, <br />surmountable curbs, etc.). <br />2. Establish tracking process and database for City -installed and private alternative practices by March, 2005 (see BMP 6-05-R). <br />F. Describe the timeline or implementation schedule for this BMP: <br />1. Annually complete ongoing maintenance and updates of the City website and Annual Community Notice. <br />2. EDUCATION PROGRAM / PUBLIC OUTREACH COMPONENT <br />a. Audience(s): All residents, businesses, contractors and developers. <br />b. Increased Awareness: Publish article(s) in newsletter and City wcbsite that address what LID and alternative systems may include <br />and how to construct and maintain them. <br />G.
