CITY OF GEM LAKE <br />NPDES - MS4 SWPPP <br />BW DESCRIPTION SHEET <br />A. Unique Identification Number: 6-03-R <br />B. Name or Type of BMP: Structural BMP and Outfall Inspection Program <br />C. BMP Description: The City operates a program of cleaning a very limited number of structural BMP's including storm water ponds, skimmers <br />and system outWIs. City staff or contractors inspect system components to look for sediment and debris build-up and proper functioning of he <br />system. The City will continue this program and look for opportunities to improve tracking of inspection results and incorporate the required <br />illicit discharge detection component into the program- <br />D. Minimum Control Measure Addressed: Pollution Prevention / Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations <br />E. Describe the measurable that will be used to determine success or benefits of this BMP: <br />1. Inspect 100% of the pollution control devices such as traps, manholes, grit chambers, sumps, floatable skimmers, separators and other small <br />settling or filtering devices each year. <br />2. Inspect at least 20% of the system outfalls, sediment basins and ponds each year. <br />3. Record and track follow-up actions needed, assign a priority level and a timeline for addressing the problem. <br />4. Record inspection date, weather conditions and results for each component inspected. <br />5. Record and track the dates of completing major maintenance activities. <br />R Describe the timeline or implementation schedule for this BMP: <br />1. Reevaluate the inspection schedule following annual reporting results in March, 2005. <br />2. Reevaluate the inspection intervals and frequency if cleaning or maintenance were not needed in Year 1 and Year 2. <br />3. EDUCATION PROGRAM / PUBLIC OUTREACH COMPONENT <br />a. Audience(s): All City staff, residents, businesses, and contractors involved in storm water and water resource inspection and <br />maintenance activities. <br />b. Increased Awareness: Make known the importance of an inspection program as critical to the storm water system maintenance <br />program (BMP 6-04-R). <br />G.
