Gem Lake City Council and Mayor: On behalf of High Tech Auto, we would like to request that we be permitted to continue our auto repair business at our current location in Gem Lake. The reasons for our request include the following: 1) When we purchased the business in August of 2013, we made every effort to do everything required for the business. 2) We went to the Gem Lake city offices and obtained a business license. We paid the $100.00 license fee and we received the license. 3) The license does not say that it must be renewed every year. We have now been informed that the Application for Business License does refer to renewal at the end of each year, but no one pointed this out to us when we obtained the license or at any other time. 4) Further, no at the city mentioned anything about the Conditional Use Permit which had been in place for a number of years with respect to the business. When we received the Business License from the City, it was our understanding that everything was in place for us to buy the business. 5) In reliance upon the granting of the business license and the lack of any comments from the City that any other steps were required, we purchased the business from the prior owner for $22,000.00. 6) We have been working very hard to operate the business so we can recover the purchase price and make a living as small business operators. 7) The auto repair business had been operated on that spot for several years and we understood that we could continue to operate it there. 8) We are being careful to keep our place of business neat and clean and we will continue to do so in the future. 9) Therefore, we request the opportunity to renew our business license and, if required, to renew the Conditional Use Permit. 10) Our livelihood depends upon our ability to continue to operate our business at its present location. We believe we are the only Hispanic business operating in Gem Lake any we request that we Jbe permitted to operate the business as we have since we bought it last August, Thank you for your consideration.
