j <br />CITY OF GEM LAKE <br />RESOLUTION NO.2006-35 <br />14 SEPTEMBER 2006 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF ADJACENT <br />COMMUNITIES TO ABANDON THE BURLINGTON NORTHERN RAILROAD <br />TRACKS AND TO SUPPORT EXTENSION OF THE BRUCE VENTO TRAIL <br />NORTHWARD FROM BUERKLE ROAD THROUGH WHITE BEAR LAKE. <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake has, for more than a decade, offered it's support of the extension <br />of the Bruce Vento Trail north of Ramsey County Road D through Vadnais Heights, Gem Lake, and White Bear Township to <br />White Bear Lake; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake understands that the City of White Bear Lake continues to work <br />with the Burlington Northern, the Minnesota Commercial Railroad, Ramsey County, State and other officials in pursuit of <br />creating this extension of the Bruce Vento Trail; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake believes that equal or improved facilities for offloading bulk <br />plastics as an alternative to the Buerkle Road site exist in White Bear Township and the City of Gem Lake; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake has observed a need for safe passage for biking and hiking <br />through and to or from the City of Gem Lake; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake has begun review of potential additional possible westward <br />connections from a northern extension of the Bruce Vento Trail that could tie into trails in communities to the west of Gem <br />Lake; now, therefore, be it <br />RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Gem Lake extends it's support to the staff and elected officials of the City <br />of White Bear Lake in pursuit of the extension of the Bruce Vento Trail north of it's current terminus at Buerkle Road <br />through White Bear Lake; and, be it <br />FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Gem Lake encourages Ramsey County and the State of <br />Minnesota to provide their full support of the extension of the Bruce Vento Trail north of it's current terminus at Buerkle <br />Road through White Bear Lake. <br />The foregoing Resolution was offered by Mayor Emeott and was supported by Councilor Bosak and was declared <br />ndnnlnd hnsed unnn the following vote: <br />NAME <br />EMEOTT <br />WATSON <br />RASMUSSEN <br />SCHILLING <br />BOSAK <br />VOTE <br />Aye <br />Aye <br />Absent <br />Aye <br />Aye <br />ATTEST <br />I, Frederic C.
